Creating a Secure Password

Have you ever thought about how hard is it to choose a good password or how important it is? Most people believe that choosing a good password is easy. After all, how is somebody going to guess my wife’s maiden name?

In reality, people usually choose poor passwords. In 2004 [Klein 2004], an attempt to crack a large password database revealed over three hundred passwords in the first fifteen minutes! One fifth of all passwords were obtained in the first week and approximately one quarter was cracked by the end of the search. More than half of the cracked passwords were six characters or less and some accounts didn’t even have a password. (more…)

“Back To School” is perhaps the most dreaded three word phrase in the English language for the majority of young people enjoying the last few days of summer. But for merchants and companies which cater to the student market, those three magic words are worth their weight in gold.

Seven Tips to Prolong the Life of Your Laptop

I recently had dinner with a friend who lamented about how her laptop was sent for repairs five times in the last two years. She was very surprised when I told her that I’ve owned three laptops in six years that have never needed repairs, all of which remain perfectly serviceable today.

Personally, I was surprised that it is possible to encounter so many problems with a laptop in the first place. Things became clearer after I heard exactly what happened. We’ve all been there. You go to use your laptop and realize that your keyboard is filthy and the keys are sticky. You may have walked away for 5 minutes only to realize that your toddler has pulled your F5 key off or there is mysterious pink goo smeared all over.
